DESTINATION

TNC25 will be hosted in Brighton by Jisc, the UK’s digital, data, and technology agency for tertiary education, research and innovation.

Brighton is a diverse and interesting city known for its historic Regency squares, Royal Pavilion, and piers, and is unofficially referred to as the ‘LGBTQIA+ capital of Britain’. It’s rich cultural and creative scene means plenty of things to do and see, from art to live music, as well as independent shops and award-winning restaurants. Sustainability is at the heart of Brighton; it is part of a UNESCO World Biosphere Region. Nature is on your doorstep, with eight miles of beach and the South Downs National Park.

While you are visiting Brighton, make sure that you check out the discounts on attractions, activities and restaurants offered to TNC25 participants! Always bring your conference badge with you to access.

If you want to experience Brighton like a local, check below our highlights recommendations below.

Preston Park is a great place for a relaxing walk, hosts many local events and has a variety of interesting buildings such as the Rotunda, Clock Tower, Tile House and even a hidden waterfall.

Brighton is famous for its Christmas Day Swim, but the sea temperature is not for the inexperienced. Try Sea Lanes instead, for a heated pool with views of the beach.

The cliffs are located in the South Downs National Park, half an hour away from Brighton. Tackle the Seven Sisters walk or visit Beachy Head to see the views from the famous white cliff tops.

Glide up gently to 138 metres high in the spacious glass viewing pod to enjoy 360° views of the sea, the sky, the South Downs, and the buzz of the city below.

VISA

All travellers, except those of visa-exempt nationality, must apply for a corresponding visa at their local British embassy or consulate well before the start of the conference.
NEW! Since January 2025, depending on your nationality (including European travellers) might need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to visit without a visa. The ETA is a simple online authorisation that allows you to enter the UK for short stays of up to 6 months. Applications for non-European have opened on January 8. All European travellers will need one from April 2 and can apply for it from March 5. On this website you can check what you need in order to travel to the UK.

Participants requiring supporting documentation in order to apply for a visa, can request this with the organisation. Please be aware that a letter of invitation does not imply any financial support. Registration, including payment, to the conference is necessary prior to requesting a letter of invitation. In the event that the visa is refused, TNC25 will refund the registration fee only on receipt of the official refusal document from the embassy/consulate, and only if the visa application was submitted to the embassy on time and with all the required documents.

If you need a visa, go to the official UK website for more information on the visa application process, as well as the documents that will be needed to support your application. Please bear in mind that applying for a visa can take time and varies according to nationality and time of year. We recommend that applicants start their visa application early enough to ensure that it is validated before they travel. The process may take longer in some countries, so please check with your nearest British embassy or consulate

Other direct trains arrive from London, Gatwick, Bedford, Cambridge, and stations throughout the south coast. Services are frequent, especially from major hubs, so you’ll have flexibility with your travel plans. Book your tickets early to secure the best fares, and check train times through National Rail or Trainline.

From Gatwick Airport
The quickest route from Gatwick Airport is a direct train to Brighton, taking about 30 minutes. Trains run regularly from the airport, making it an easy and efficient way to arrive.

From Heathrow Airport
From Heathrow, take the Heathrow Express or Elizabeth Line to London Paddington, then transfer to London Victoria for a direct train to Brighton. Alternatively, National Express operates direct coach services to Brighton from Heathrow’s Central Bus Station.

National Express and Megabus operate regular coach services to Brighton from various UK cities, including London, Gatwick, and Heathrow. Coaches offer a cost-effective way to travel and drop you off in central Brighton, just a short walk from key attractions and the city centre.

Brighton is easily accessible by road. The A23/M23 connects the city to London and the M25, while the A27 links the south coast cities. Do be aware that parking can be limited in central Brighton, so consider using one of the park-and-ride options available on weekends or booking parking in advance.

Buses operated by Brighton & Hove buses serve all major locations in and around Brighton, and their app provides real-time information and ticketing.
